What inspired you to join MeWe?
Funny enough, it was the impending doom of Google+. Just knowing back then that it would be shutting down in the next few months I started looking for alternatives, and coincidentally a previous Marketing Manager from MeWe reached out and gave me a quick intro about the platform. He sent me an invite to check it out and I created an account, loved what I saw (very reminiscent of G+) so I created my G+ groups on MeWe, invited all of my followers and now here we are nearly 8 years later.
What keeps you active on the MeWe app?
My groups and the wonderful connections I’ve established over the years.
If you could describe your ideal community in three words, what would they be?
Welcoming. Diverse. Active.
If you could describe yourself in three words what would they be?
Lighthearted. Informative. Funny.
What do you love most about MeWe compared to other platforms?
The authenticity of the people. There’s no faking it. People simply are who they are, unapologetically their true selves, take it or leave it. I love that. (Scammers not included ha!)
Who or what inspires the content you share, and why?
My personality. I’m easy going. I share what makes me happy, what brings me joy, and what I believe others can relate to as well. That’s how you find your people.
What’s one tip or trick you’d give to someone who’s just getting started on MeWe?
POKE ALL THE BUTTONS! That will always be the first tip I give to every newbie. Find out what all the buttons on the platform do, dig into the settings, try things out and if you still have questions, don’t be afraid to come ask me!
What’s a fun fact about you that most of your friends on MeWe might not have guessed?
I am skilled in various subjects. I love learning new things. Among things, I can cut and dye your hair, draw your blood, inject a medication, and teach you and your pet Spanish. Yes, my pets are bilingual!
What’s your favourite MeWe Group and why?
It’s going to sound biased, but my MeWe Discussion and Help group. It’s been a great group full of great conversations over the years, rooted in the passionate feedback from our members. Second place would be my Doodle group. It’s based on one of MeWe’s lesser known features, but it’s so much fun. Try it out!
If you can change one thing about MeWe what would it be?
I would change the notification panel so it has its very own notification feed. The way it is displayed now, is all too small and difficult to scroll. There also needs to be a way to filter out notifications for emojis. Some of us get slammed with emojis from new users, or users that simply haven’t seen us in some time, and the mass of emojis causes endless scrolling to try and point out the important notifications -such as application/post approvals, replies to comments, mentions, etc.
What are your top three favorite features on MeWe?
If you would have asked me this 3 years ago, I would have said 1. The “Me” and “We” feature! (I’m crossing my fingers and toes it makes a comeback! It was useful and fun!) 2. The Doodle feature! It’s so much fun to use and an alternative way to express yourself when words simply aren’t enough. Join my Doodle group if you’re interested. 3. The Discover feature, because active and passionate group owners/admins can recommend posts from their group to a broader audience so more people can join and enjoy the content.
Have you made connections on MeWe that felt like you knew them in real life?
Yes! There are a handful of wonderful people on MeWe I have grown close to and even some that I’ve been able to meet in real life! It’s amazing what staying your authentic self can attract and create – true connections.
Since you’ve joined MeWe, what is the most valuable thing you find on this app?
The authentic connections I’ve made are the most valuable to me.
Do you feel like you can express your voice on MeWe and not be afraid of your post being taken down?
I’ve never been afraid of anything I say being taken down because I’m quite mindful of what I say before I post it.
Do you feel like MeWe is a safe space for you?
For me personally, yes, because I value my privacy so I only share certain aspects of my life and I’m mindful of what I say and do.
Who have you invited to join MeWe in real life?
A couple of friends and a previous significant other.
Who around you do you think would like to join MeWe?
Not sure anymore. I’ll need to ask around to see still who values their online privacy and see if they’re interested in knowing about MeWe.
How would you describe MeWe in one sentence?
A small but mighty fun and alternative platform – that above all – puts its users privacy first.
