We’re thrilled to share MeWe’s excitement about participating in Nigeria Blockchain & AI Week an event that spotlights the convergence of blockchain, artificial intelligence, and crypto innovation across Nigeria, West Africa, and beyond. Organized by CoinNewsExtra in collaboration with the Fintech Association of Nigeria, NBA Week is fast becoming a landmark for tech, policy, and community building.

Why Nigeria is a Powerhouse Right Now

There’s no shortage of momentum in Nigeria’s tech ecosystem. Here are some of the biggest numbers and stories that underline why this week matters:

  • Nigeria is ranked #2 globally for cryptocurrency adoption, driven by a young, digitally native population embracing crypto in creative, grassroots ways.
  • Between July 2023 and June 2024, Nigeria processed approximately USD 59 billion in crypto transaction value. The vast majority (~85%) of these transactions were under USD 1 million, a sign of strong retail participation.
  • As of 2025, around 22 million Nigerians about 10.3% of the population hold cryptocurrencies. A decade ago, that figure was just 0.4%.
  • On the AI front: A recent study (by Zoho / Arion Research) found that 93% of Nigerian firms have already embraced AI in some capacity, with 84% of those firms also reinforcing privacy and data-protection measures to keep up with this rapid change.

Technological Innovation in Motion

Beyond just adoption, Nigeria is pushing forward with real advances and new models. Some of the exciting innovation trends:

  • AI + Blockchain for fraud detection & data integrity. Startups like Anchor and Aje are using these tools to reduce fraudulent transactions and automate verification workflows.
  • Tokenised global stocks & digital assets. As part of Nigeria’s digital finance evolution, more people are engaging with tokenised assets. The population’s readiness for digital tools makes such innovation both possible and necessary.
  • Government policy & strategy. Nigeria has released a blockchain-adoption blueprint and a national strategy to leverage blockchain for transparency, efficiency, and public service improvement. This involves government, academia, and private sector in collaborative research, regulation, and deployment.
  • Fintech growth & inclusion. Major fintech companies are achieving high valuations, expanding digital payments, and helping to bring more people into the formal financial system through blockchain and crypto tools.

MeWe’s Take & What We Look Forward To

Being at NBA Week gives MeWe the chance to be in the thick of these conversations: policy, ethics, community building, and tech innovation. We’re especially excited to engage on things like:

  • How design and social platforms can support safe, privacy-respecting experiences in AI & Web3.
  • Collaboration with local and global innovators to build solutions that address real-world challenges: fraud, identity, supply chain, inclusion.
  • Amplifying voices often underrepresented in tech: women, grassroots communities, rural areas.

For MeWe, it’s an inspiring moment. We’re grateful to be part of this journey, and can’t wait to see what ideas, partnerships, and breakthroughs emerge when this community gathers.
