A Journey to the Social Web: MeWe’s 2024 in Review

As 2024 draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on what has been a truly transformative year for MeWe. This year has been nothing short of a milestone for us—a year of innovation, progress, and, above all, the power of community.
When we set out on our journey to the Social Web more than two years ago, the challenges were many, but so were the opportunities. Our mission has always been clear: to build a platform where users have control over their data and where true, authentic connections can thrive. Social networking is changing fast, and the demand for decentralization is louder than ever.
People want control, privacy, and freedom from algorithms that dictate what they see and how they interact. At MeWe, we’re proud to be leading this shift, staying true to our core values and reimagining what social networking can be in a decentralized world.
A Look Back: Milestones That Defined Our Path
2024 has been a year of growth, innovation, and exciting partnerships. Here are just a few of the highlights, as captured by the press:
- 2023: In 2023, MeWe took its first steps into Web3 by integrating with the Frequency blockchain, allowing users to claim universal handles and take control of their data. - January 2024: We made headlines by successfully migrating 500,000 active users to Web3, marking the largest seamless transition from Web 2.0 to Web3 in history.
- May 2024: We entered a critical phase—encoding social graphs onto the blockchain, ensuring that your relationships stay yours, no matter where you go across the Social Web.
- August 2024: A proud moment for us: MeWe surpassed 1 million users on-chain, with over 600,000 users now fully owning their social graph. This represents a major leap forward for MeWe in the decentralization space. (PR Newswire)
- October 2024: Our journey took an exciting turn with the announcement of a $6 million Series B funding round, led by McCourt Global. This investment will fuel the next phase of our Web3 integration and expand our decentralized offerings for MeWe’s 20 million users. (PR Newswire)
- November 2024: MeWe took a giant step into the future with the announcement of a strategic partnership with Avalanche. This collaboration is all about building a more decentralized and scalable social networking ecosystem, with advanced tools to help our users better engage with one another. (TheStreet)

- December 2024: We’re closing out 2024 with 1.4 million users on-chain, a testament to our ongoing commitment to user empowerment and decentralization. This is just the beginning of what’s possible as we continue to reshape the digital landscape for our community.
Building a Better Tomorrow
Of course, this journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Moving an established platform to a decentralized model while maintaining a smooth and intuitive user experience is no small task. But thanks to our loyal users and the dedication of our team, we’ve not only overcome these hurdles—we’ve come out stronger, more connected, and more focused than ever on our mission.
In 2024, we also introduced groundbreaking features like the Threads, Bookmarks, AI Stickers & MeWe Dual Camera app, forged new partnerships with both Frequency and Avalanche, and celebrated the power of human connection during our company World Meeting in Barcelona.
